Meaning – As the name suggests, a command prompt, is essentially a prompt that is composed of a string of characters, that indicates to the user that he/she can now enter a command.
Typically, the command prompt consists of the name of the current drive of the computer followed by the username of the PC. This prompt appears initially when you open the command line interface, and after every successful execution of a command, in order to take in the next command.
When a programmer changes the directory where the command is to be executed, the command prompt changes to show the directory of the folder, followed by the folder name.
Example of usage – “When he opened the command prompt on his windows PC, the prompt showed him the current directory that he was in, followed by the username he had assigned to his pc.”
