Meaning – The term interface, refers to a shared boundary between two functional units, defined by functional characteristics, signal characteristics, or other characteristics, as appropriate. The concept includes the specification of the connection of two devices having different functions.

In the context of hardware, an interface is a physical device, port, or connection that interacts with the computer or other hardware device.

An interface may also refer to controls used in a program that allows the user to interact with the program.
