Meaning – The word command, in the context of computing, refers to a directive given to a computer, to perform a certain action. These commands may be given through the command line interface, via a network, or through a graphic user interface.
The word command is used often due to the nature of the vocabulary used in programming languages. Most programming languages allow the programmer to enter statements that sound like commands, which are then converted to the machine language in order for the computer to understand these commands and execute them.
These days, most computers allow the programmer or designers, to use gestures to issue commands to the computer.
Example of usage – “The programmer had to get acquainted with the new programming language, as it was the default language being used in the organisation, to issue commands to the computers.”
