How to check your name in the Electoral Roll [India Elections 2024]

The general elections in India began today, and people have gone in huge numbers to cast their precious vote. The phase-wise elections scheme means that certain states and seats are up for election on a particular day, and if you are someone who is yet to vote, then it is a good idea to verify your name in the electoral roll.

For those of you who are voting for the first time, the electoral roll is a list of eligible voters in a particular jurisdiction. People who are above the age of 18 are eligible to vote, and it is a right that you must exercise, so that the right people can represent your area, city, state, and country.

Why should I verify my name in the Electoral Roll?

If you are above the age of 18, you are eligible to vote, but in order to vote, you need to be in possession of a Voter ID, which is basically a card that has your details, and acts as the entry pass to the election venue. Possessing a Voter ID usually ensures that your name is added to the electoral roll by default, but it is always a good idea to verify the same.

How to check your name in the Electoral Roll

Let’s quickly take a look at how you can verify your name in the electoral roll.

Step 1. Open the web browser of your choice on your computer.

Step 2. Head to the voter services portal – VOTERS’ SERVICES PORTAL (eci.gov.in)

Step 3. On the homepage of the website, you will see the option to search for your name in the following ways:

1. Search using EPIC number
2. Search using details
3. Search using mobile number

If you possess a Voter ID, it comes with an EPIC number that is printed on the front. Enter the same and the corresponding details. Complete the captcha and click on the search button. You will now see your details, and you can then verify the same, and on the designated day, you can reach the voting center with your registered Voter ID and cast your vote.

 

 

For some reason, if your EPIC number is not recognised, maybe because you have an older Voter ID, you can click on the Search by Details option. Here, you will have to enter your first name, last name, date of birth, etc. Once again, enter the captcha and then click on the search button. Your details will come up, and you can then head to the venue on the designated date, and go vote.

 

 

Finally, we have the search by mobile number option. This is by far, the easiest method, but it works only if you have registered your mobile number while applying for your Voter ID. If your mobile number is registered, simply enter the same, and enter the OTP that you receive. Finish the captcha and click on the search button. Your details will come up, and you are good to go.

 

 

Make sure you verify your name in the electoral roll, and go and cast your vote. Make sure you exercise your rights and be a responsible citizen of India.
