Meaning – The word drive, refers to a peripheral device that is connected to a computer system that is predominantly related to storage related applications. When it comes to data storage, there are predominantly two types of data that exists on a computer system – Volatile data and Non volatile data. Volatile data is the kind of data that gets deleted the moment you turn off the computer.
Non volatile data is the data that is not deleted even after you turn off the computer. The drives present on the computer or connected externally, store the non volatile data.
Over the past several decades, drives have evolved along with other computer technologies.
Example of usage – “The organisation had to adapt with changing technologies and as such, had to change the drives being used by the employees within the organisation.”
