Samsung Introduces Galaxy Watch 6 Astro Edition Inspired by Astrolabe Design

Samsung has unveiled a limited edition variant of its Galaxy Watch 6 Classic, known as the Astro Edition, featuring a unique design inspired by the astrolabe, an ancient instrument used to determine the positions of stars and celestial bodies. The Galaxy Watch 6 Astro Edition boasts a rotating Black Astro Bezel adorned with etchings of constellations and celestial bodies, creating a distinctive and visually appealing aesthetic.

The watch face of the Astro Edition showcases a looping video of space, evoking the view of the Milky Way. Objects can be observed moving across the screen, and the second hand features a crescent moon at its tip. These design elements contribute to an immersive and celestial-themed appearance.

In addition to its striking design, the Galaxy Watch 6 Astro Edition offers two star-related features. On the left side of the watch face, trackers are provided to assist amateur astronomers in monitoring the phases of the sun and the moon. On the right side, a simple compass complication adds a functional element to the watch’s features.

The limited availability of the Astro Edition may disappoint some enthusiasts, as it is currently only accessible in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, including countries such as Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia. Samsung’s choice of this region for the initial launch is attributed to its historical contributions to science, particularly in the fields of astronomy and mathematics.

While the exact pricing for the Galaxy Watch 6 Astro Edition is not specified in the announcement, information from Samsung’s Levant website indicates a price of approximately $500 USD. Purchasing the Astro Edition includes an additional Fabric Band, Astro Edition collectibles, and access to Samsung’s VIP promotion store.

Although the initial launch is limited to the MENA region, Samsung’s mention of the Astro Edition as the “first of several limited-edition collections of watches” suggests that more unique and themed variants may be introduced in the future. Enthusiasts in other regions may hope for a wider release of these distinctive smartwatch designs in the coming months.
