Apple unveiled iOS 18 at the recently concluded WWDC 2024 event, and let’s just say, there is a lot to unfold, but the obvious talking point of course, is Apple Intelligence. Apple has been surprisingly quiet on the AI front, but it looks like finally, they are ready to get into the grind with an initial partnership with OpenAI.
People are obviously in two minds about it, but with the availability of this technology limited to iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, only a handful of users will initially report on what they actually think about Apple’s take on AI in a phone.
The rest of the crowd will be treated to iOS 18 and its host of features (we have written a dedicated article on the top 10 features of iOS 18, which you should definitely check out), but as usual, the wait will be a long one.
Historically, Apple is known to release their new OS versions a week after their September event. But, if you are eager to get your hands on a developer preview build, you can do it right now. Now, before you grab your iPhone and prepare yourself for iOS 18 goodness, bear in mind that the OS builds available for download right now, are previews, and are not at all final customer versions. This means, features will work or sometimes act crazy, there can be lags and glitches, and sometimes, apps you generally use, may not work.
I would not recommend downloading the developer previews, but, if you still are keen on trying it out, this is how you can do it –
Step 1. Open the settings app on your iPhone.
Step 2. Scroll through the settings menu and tap on the ‘general’ option.
Step 3. In the general settings, tap on the ‘Software Update’ option.
Step 4. In the software update window, tap on the ‘Beta Updates’ option.
Step 5. You will now see a list of developer previews that are available for your device. Here, tap on the iOS 18 Developer Beta option.
Now, follow the on-screen instructions, and in a few minutes, you will be good to go. Please ensure that you create a backup of your data, as developer builds can cause data loss in rare occasions. Be careful while using the beta builds, and if you feel you are done with the experience, immediately re-install your standard iOS version and restore your data.
