Whenever you are dealing with wireless networks, like WiFi, or even your Android device’s network hotspot, the one thing that remains constant is the presence of a network security key. Now, while the name does sound like a lot, a network security key is nothing but the password to your WiFi network or portable hotspot.
Android smartphones do a great job with managing these network security keys, by keeping them secure and hidden from public view. However, if you are the admin, and want to make changes to the network security key, there is a way to access it.
Now, keep in mind, the key to your WiFi can only be changed via the software or app provided by the network provider, but you can change the key to your mobile hotspot.
In this tutorial, we will show you how to check the network security key on Android.
Step 1. Open the ‘Settings‘ app on your Android smartphone.
Step 2. Tap on the ‘Network and Internet‘ option from the settings menu.
Step 3. Tap on the ‘Hotspot and Tethering‘ option.
Step 4. Next, tap on the ‘WiFi Hotspot‘ option from the Hotspot and Tethering menu.
Step 5. Finally, tap on the ‘Hotspot Password‘ option to reveal the network security key.
You can now see the current network security key and using the data entry field, you can even change the key to something more robust. Protocol dictates that you include an Uppercase letter, lowercase letter, a number, and a special symbol in the password to keep it strong, but ultimately, it’s up to you. If you are unsure about what to set as your network security key, there are password generators online that you can use to set a strong password for your Hotspot.
Please ensure that you do not openly share the network security key with everyone. There are many people out there who will use this to cause trouble and even leech off your hotspot. Be safe and make it a habit to change the network security on a regular basis.
