Customer information from Samsung was stolen in a data breach

Samsung said on Friday that some of its customers’ personal information was taken early this year from its US computer systems.

The South Korean-based IT company said in a customer warning that an unauthorized individual obtained information from the networks in July. Samsung discovered that some customer data had been exposed during its examination in early August.

Since then, the corporation has protected the impacted systems, engaged an independent cybersecurity firm, and is collaborating with law enforcement.

According to Samsung, the stolen customer data may have included names, contact and demographic information, dates of birth, and product registration information. More sensitive personal information, such as Social Security numbers and credit card information, was not hacked.

Samsung did not specify how many customers were impacted but said that those who were are being notified.
