Minecraft content creator Technoblade’s fans recently raised $500,000 for cancer research. After a long battle with stage four cancer, the 23-year-old Minecraft streamer died on June 30, 2022.
In October 2013, Technoblabe launched his Minecraft YouTube channel. In the game, he was known for playing a pig with a crown. When he joined the Dream SMP server, where he had a friendly rivalry with fellow Minecraft streamer Dream, his popularity skyrocketed. Technoblade’s YouTube channel currently has over 15 million subscribers, and his Twitch channel has over 866,000. Technoblade’s father posted his final video, “so long nerds,” to express his gratitude to his fans and the friends he made over the years.
Since Technoblade’s death, his community, along with other Minecraft streamers such as Dream and TommyInnit, has been raising money for cancer research for months. They were successful in raising $500,000, which will be donated to the Sarcoma Foundation of America. Technoblade appears to have backed the non-profit organization’s goal of funding research and raising awareness about sarcoma in order to help patients.
The SFA’s website also featured a “Technoblade Tribute.” The organization expressed their sorrow over Technoblade’s death, stating that he will live on in their hearts despite his personal battle with sarcoma. It recognized its community’s efforts in raising $500,000 in recent months, and it also honored the late Minecraft content creator with the Courage Award at its 20th Annual Stand Up to Sarcoma Gala last September. SFA concluded its tribute with a message of hope for cancer patients. Donations are still being accepted on SFA’s website for those who want to support the organization’s ongoing advocacy.
Mojang Studios previously paid tribute to Technoblade by adorning the pig in the Java version loading screen with a bejeweled crown. Fans appreciated the subtle update because it demonstrated that the people behind Minecraft were both mourning and celebrating the life of Technoblade.
The recent donation to SFA demonstrates that the Minecraft community wishes to preserve Technoblade’s legacy. Fans continue to flock to the Dream SMP streams and YouTube videos to support Technoblade’s friends, despite Minecraft remaining one of the most popular games among players of all ages. They could also watch his previous YouTube videos to see his previous builds and speed runs. Technoblade is an excellent example of a young content creator who, despite his untimely death, left an indelible mark on his community.
