Lenovo has unveiled its latest 14-inch mobile workstation, the ThinkPad P14s Gen 5, featuring AMD’s powerful Ryzen Pro 8040 HS-Series processors with Ryzen AI and integrated Radeon graphics. Designed for professionals who require high performance in a lightweight and portable form factor, the ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 weighs just 2.89 pounds, making it an ideal companion for on-the-go work.
Lenovo Launches Powerful Yet Affordable ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 Mobile Workstation
Despite its compact size, this workstation packs a punch with up to 96GB of DDR5 RAM and up to a 2TB PCIe 4×4 Performance SSD, ensuring ample storage and memory for demanding workloads. Users can choose between touch or non-touch displays, with options for a vibrant 2.8K OLED (2880×1800) or a WUXGA FHD+ (1920×1200) panel. Lenovo has implemented a 3M Optical Film solution that increases brightness to 400 nits while reportedly reducing power consumption by up to 16%.
The ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 comes equipped with a comprehensive array of ports, including two USB-A, two USB-C Thunderbolt 4, HDMI 2.1 TDMS, a mic/headphone jack, RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet, and optional Smart Card Reader and Nano SIM2 slot. For enhanced security and privacy, the device features a 5MP camera with a privacy shutter or an optional 5MP RGB+IR webcam.
In terms of connectivity, the workstation supports Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and optional 5G WWAN and NFC. It comes pre-installed with Windows 11 Pro and is qualified for Ubuntu Linux, Red Hat Enterprise, and Fedora.
One potential drawback of the ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 is its relatively small 39.3Whr battery, which may not provide sufficient endurance for extended periods of unplugged use. However, Lenovo has addressed this concern by offering a customer-replaceable battery option, allowing users to upgrade to a more substantial 52.5Whr battery if desired.
The Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 5 mobile workstation is expected to be available for purchase starting in late May 2024, with an anticipated starting price of $1,379. When budgeting for this device, it’s advisable to factor in the cost of the larger battery option if extended battery life is a priority.
