Ishin will depict the universe of Like a Dragon in a very different setting than earlier games in the series. The present setting of the main series Like a Dragon game has been replaced by Japan in the latter years of the samurai period. Many of these changes are mirrored in the gameplay, with mini-games taking the shape of traditional card games like Koi-Koi and Poker rather than arcades as in earlier titles. With the remake, Ishin will also keep the “card-based fight system” from the original.
Like a Dragon: Ishin’s announcement last year was accompanied by two more big disclosures for the franchise’s future. Like a Dragon Gaiden, a spinoff slated to appear in 2023, will chronicle Kiryu’s travels throughout the events of Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Sega would also disclose the next major entry in the series, Like a Dragon 8, with a release date of 2024 scheduled. Fans of Like a Dragon will have a lot to look forward to in the next year, with various spinoffs and a main-series game.
