The Dead Space remake has topped the sales charts

The newly released Dead Space reboot has topped the UK’s hard copy sales statistics, beating out numerous notable rivals. The Dead Space remake has also been a big hit with reviewers and players, gaining a top spot on Steam’s sales rankings and mostly positive feedback.

Since Isaac Clarke worked a nightmare shift aboard the necromorph-infested Ishimura in 2008’s Dead Space, the Dead Space series has been one of the most popular in the horror game genre. The game was groundbreaking at the time, with an impressively immersive presentation that blended atmospheric level design, spine-chilling sound effects, and John Carpenter’s The Thing’s body horror into a sci-fi horror sensation. Many people were doubtful that a remake could possibly match the original when EA Motive’s remake was unveiled over a decade later. According to sales numbers and reviews, the studio seems to have accomplished just that.

The Dead Space reboot has topped the UK’s physical sales statistics, with the PlayStation 5 version accounting for 80% of all purchases. The difference in sales between PlayStation and Xbox might be attributed to buying patterns since Xbox consumers prefer digital downloads. Dead Space is followed in the UK physical sales ranking by FIFA 23, God of War Ragnarok, Forspoken, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Despite Dead Space’s popularity, it’s worth noting that the remake has yet to outperform The Callisto Protocol’s first week of retail sales, a game that owes part of its success to its resemblance to Dead Space. It is worth mentioning, however, that The Callisto Protocol was also accessible on more platforms, at a cheaper price point, and published over the holidays, generally the busiest time of year for physical copies. The Callisto Protocol had a poor review, however, this has started to change owing to upgrades that have provided several enhancements such as bug patches and New Game Plus.

When the digital sales numbers are released later this week, the Dead Space remake is likely to be at or near the top of them as well. The only game currently outperforming Dead Space on Steam is pre-orders for the forthcoming open-world Harry Potter RPG Hogwarts Legacy.
