IKEA’s Vappeby line-up keeps expanding with the addition of a new waterproof Bluetooth speaker made for the shower that costs only $15, making it more affordable than all but the cheapest no-name products. According to a press release by product designer Stjepan Begic, “the fundamental goal with the new product was to offer quality sound in a versatile product that can really be used anywhere.”
It is only three inches square and two inches thick, and silicone-coated. You may hang one in the shower or carry it about conveniently because it has a lanyard-style chain. If you spend an additional $15 for a second one, you can use them as a stereo pair. It is available in yellow, black, or red. With a stunning 80 hours of battery life at 50% volume, it is water- and dust-resistant and has an IP67 rating.
IKEA introduced its Vappeby range with an outdoor LED bulb that also functions as a Bluetooth speaker with Spotify compatibility. This device produces 360-degree sound and has an IP65 rating for splash and dust. The Symfonisk range of Sonos speakers, which includes a bookshelf speaker, a floor lamp/speaker, and a wall art/speaker combination, is also available from the Swedish retail behemoth.
The new Vappeby waterproof model’s only shortcoming is the absence of a USB-C charger, but you presumably have a few of them hanging around. It should sell like hotcakes given the absurdly low price, shower-friendly design, and insanely extended battery life, however I wouldn’t anticipate outstanding sound quality. It is currently $15 on sale.
