How to set up Siri on the iPhone

When the iPhones started evolving, one of the features that were introduced, was voice control. Now, initially, the voice control was very surface level, in the sense that there were fixed commands that you could speak into your iPhone, and that particular instruction would be carried out, and that was that. However, the whole game changed when Apple evolved the humble voice command feature to a full-fledged voice assistant – Siri.

Siri emulates a real-life person living within your iPhone, more like a personal assistant. You can ask Siri to perform local tasks like opening apps, or read out your messages and announce calls. But, the real deal lies in the not-so-local tasks, like searching for something on the internet, booking a table at a restaurant, playing and controlling media playback, and much much more.

Initially, you can have to long-press a button on the iPhone, to activate Siri, but today, thanks to upgrades to the Siri platform, you can now simply say “Hey Siri”, and the voice assistant will fire up.

In this tutorial, we will walk you through how you can set up Siri on the iPhone.

Open the ‘Settings‘ app on the iPhone.

In the Siri settings, this is what you can control –

  1. Listen for ‘Hey Siri’ – Enabling this feature will allow you to speak out the phrase “Hey Siri” to activate the voice assistant.
  2. Press Side Button for Siri – Enabling this feature will allow you to activate Siri by long-pressing the Side button on the iPhone.
  3. Allow Siri when locked – Enabling this feature will allow you to use Siri even when the iPhone is locked.

Other than these three main settings, you can even choose the more intricate details, such as the language that Siri communicates in, the kind of voice Siri has and you can even access the history of conversations you have had with Siri in the past.

Now, if you feel that Siri is not to your liking, and you want to turn off the feature for the time being, simply toggle off the main three settings that we mentioned earlier, and you will no longer activate Siri on your own.

Siri is undergoing constant evolution, so all we can say, is that the more you use Siri, the better your experience will get.
