Meaning – The term offline, refers to the status of the network or the computer, where it is not currently online, which means it is either not turned on, or it is not connected to the network.
Offline can also mean not being connected to the Internet. When you disconnect from your ISP or pull out the Ethernet cable from your computer, your computer is offline. Some programs, such as Web browsers and e-mail programs, have an option to “Work Offline.” This option disables the program’s network connection, meaning no data can be transmitted to or from the computer.
Example of usage – “She was trying to print out some important documents, but her printer kept giving her a ‘Printer is currently offline’ error. She later realized that the printer and her computer were connected to different networks.”
