Ethernet

Meaning – The term ethernet, refers to the standard way of connecting a computer to the network. This is done by means of an an ethernet port and an ethernet cable to connect to the port.

It provides a simple interface and for connecting multiple devices, such computers, routers, and switches. With a single router and a few Ethernet cables, you can create a LAN, which allows all connected devices to communicate with each other.

Ethernet is still the standard for wired networking, but in most modern devices, wireless networking solutions have replaced this mode of networking. Technology like WiFi has stepped in and is now the preferred mode for networking as it does not require the user to keep the device tethered to the wall.

Example of usage“He had an old generation PC which could only connect to the internet via an ethernet cable. He decided to upgrade the PC for a more modern one with WiFi capabilities.”
