Meaning – The word burn refers to the process of making a photocopy of content. Usually in an organisations, there are multiple documents that are printed out and circulated. However, instead of individually printing each copy, the employee in charge prints out one copy and then photocopies it into the desired number of copies.
This process is referred to as burning, and if you ever listen to this word being used for a document, you can assume that it means to create a photocopy of the document, and not literally burn it into ashes.
While the term is approved or use, most organisations avoid using this nomenclature in order to avoid misunderstandings.
Example of usage – “The employee was instructed to burn the document, but he decided to clarify what that meant, before taking action.”
