Bridge

Meaning – The word bridge, in the context of networking, refers to a computer networking devices, that forms a link between two local area networks that use the same protocols. The concept of bridging is not to be mistaken for routing. In routing, the multiple networks are able to communicate but still remain separate. However, in bridging, the two networks behave like one single network.

Earlier, the bridging process was wired, but thanks to the dawn of wireless technology, if one or more of the nodes of the bridge are wireless, it is called a wireless bridge.

The main types of bridging technologies are simple bridging, multi-port bridging, and learning or transparent bridging.

Example of usage“A bridge is a type of computer network device that provides interconnection with other bridge networks that use the same protocol.”
