EA said two years ago that it was working on a successor for its Origin PC client, and the new program is currently being sent out to Windows customers. According to the publisher, the EA app, which has recently completed its open beta phase, is the company’s fastest and lightest PC client to date.
EA promises a more simplified appearance and claims simpler navigation. The app seems to have better social functions as well, as you’ll be able to link your EA account to platforms such as Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation — which might be useful for games that offer cross-play, such as Apex Legends and FIFA 23. You’ll have a unique EA ID that your friends should be able to identify.
According to the publisher, it will shortly ask Origin users to migrate to the new app. As you would expect, everything you own will be present, including your games, save data, and friends list. It’s worth mentioning that the new client will first be accessible exclusively on Windows PCs. If you use macOS, you’ll keep using the Origin for Mac program for the foreseeable future. However, EA said that it would have more information to give in the coming months.
