iOS 18 release date

All you need to know about the iOS 18 release date and compatible devices

At the recently concluded WWDC 2024 event, Apple unveiled its upcoming mobile operating system, iOS 18, and after going through the keynote and the release notes, I can safely say that it is one of the biggest upgrades to iOS yet. Yes, there are a few features that should have come into the iOS platform a long time ago, but as they say, Apple takes their time with things because they want to get it ‘Right’.

The most interesting thing about iOS 18 however, it not the quality of life impovements, but the all-new Apple Intelligence that will run through the very foundation of iOS and make every feature smarter and more personal. Powering Apple Intelligence will be OpenAI’s brand new GPT 4-o, which itself has become the best of the bunch when it comes to AI applications and platforms.

There are some who feel Apple is making a mistake by going with OpenAI, rather than developing its own AI model, but when I thought about this, I saw a similarity to the Apple-Intel partnership, where the former utilised Intel chipsets, until it was ready with its own silicon, and now, we can all see just how well the new generation of Apple chipsets are performing.

The Cupertino based tech giant may just be pulling another Intel here, in the sense that they will give their users a taste of the best AI in the market, and in due course, blow everyone out of the water with a AI model of their own, but that’s just my thinking.
