A Ranked Mode is Coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 does not yet have a dedicated Ranked playlist, but one will be added next year.

Treyarch has revealed that the newly launched Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will include a Ranked Play option, although it will not be available until 2023. Some may be perplexed by Treyarch’s handling of Modern Warfare 2 Ranked Play, but it’s important to remember that every Call of Duty game is a collaborative effort from various companies under the Activision banner.

While Treyarch is arguably most known to Call of Duty fans for its Black Ops subseries of games, the firm also contributed to Call of Duty: Vanguard material. Treyarch handled the Ranked mode in Call of Duty: Vanguard, so it stands to reason that the studio will handle the feature in Modern Warfare 2. Treyarch confirmed the release of Modern Warfare 2 Ranked Play in 2023 and offered some insights about what it would involve.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Ranked Play will include competitive game modes, skill divisions, skill ratings, a top 250 leaderboard, and unique incentives, according to Treyarch. More information about these awards will be provided at a later date. Meanwhile, Treyarch has stated that Ranked support in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard is coming to an end, and Call of Duty players should collect their awards in both titles by November 22.

Hardcore Call of Duty fans will be pleased to find that Ranked Play is coming to Modern Warfare 2, but some may be perplexed by the fact that it will not be available until 2023. After all, Activision normally publishes a new Call of Duty game every year, so it seems like Modern Warfare 2 Ranked Play will be rendered outdated in no time. However, industry sources claim that Call of Duty is ditching its yearly release plan and will instead continue to concentrate on Modern Warfare 2 in 2023, which might explain the move. It’s worth noting that Activision has rejected allegations that no new Call of Duty game would be released in 2023, so fans should keep that in mind.

Some fans believe that Ranked Play will be a good solution to the Call of Duty skill-based matching problem, however this will not be the case with Modern Warfare 2. There has been no indication that the introduction of a separate Ranked mode would alter anything about Modern Warfare 2 SBMM in quick play, and SBMM is unlikely to be phased out anytime soon, if ever.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
