The global automotive industry has been a hive of activity, introducing 45 new car models in the third quarter of 2023. These releases encompass final production versions, some of which may not yet be available for purchase. Excluding light commercial vehicles but including pickup trucks, this count paints a dynamic picture of the industry’s relentless innovation. It spans launches in China, Japan, Korea, the United States, Europe, India, and other emerging markets, but omits the Iranian auto market.
A Burst of Creativity
Despite a backdrop of slowing growth in new car sales worldwide, the industry continues to thrive with creativity. Expanding beyond the 45 models launched in Q3, a grand total of 90 new models graced the automotive stage in the last six months. Many of these newcomers boast electric propulsion, reflecting the industry’s electrification wave, but traditional internal combustion engines are far from obsolete.
