Meaning – The word docked, refers to the state wherein a mobile phone or a computer system is connected to a docking station. Organisations usually issue a work laptop or mobile to the employees, and it is possible that there are some hardware components that the laptop or mobile may not have. To facilitate these missing components, the organisation also issues docking stations that the users can connect their laptops to and use the whole setup like a full fledged computer system.
A typical docking station may consist of components like CD drives, extra USB ports, power inlet, etc. that can enhance the productivity of the laptop or mobile device.
Example of usage – “He received his company laptop, but since it did not have enough USB drives, he was totally reliant on the the docking station when he had to attach more than one peripheral devices to it.”
