Nintendo and LEGO are revving up for another Super Mario collaboration. The iconic brands will release the LEGO Super Mario Bowser’s Muscle Car Expansion Set on January 1, 2024.
This marks the latest addition to the popular LEGO Super Mario lineup first announced in 2020. The interactive sets feature figures with digital screens that respond as players move through courses collecting coins.
The collaboration has spawned several expansions over the years. Fan favorites include the Super Mario Mighty Bowser set, Piranha Plant, and Princess Peach’s castle.
The interactive playsets were an instant hit, shooting to the top of Amazon’s bestsellers shortly after launch.
Now LEGO brings us Bowser’s flashy new ride. The $29.99 expansion kit contains 458 pieces to build a brick-built Bowser and his signature purple hot rod.
Interactive features let players move the car’s hood and activate other elements. The Bowser figure itself has an action tag that triggers responses when combined with other characters and courses.
Fans can even swap Bowser for Mario, Luigi or Peach as the driver. This affects engine sounds, the horn and more based on who is behind the wheel.
While the Muscle Car Expansion can stand alone, combining it with a Super Mario Starter Course unlocks the full interactive experience.
Given Super Mario’s enduring popularity, it’s no surprise Nintendo and LEGO continue teaming up. The blockbuster Super Mario Bros. Movie franchise proves fans still love the plucky plumber.
