LG OLED TVs Introduce Wireless Lossless Dolby Atmos

LG has announced select 2024 TVs and soundbars will transmit Dolby Atmos audio completely wirelessly in lossless quality. This functionality comes thanks to a new feature called WOWCAST. It marks a meaningful step for home theater convenience without sacrificing surround sound performance.

The trick lies in LG’s latest Alpha 11 and Alpha 9 AI processors built into premium OLED models like the G4 and C4. These chips allow the TVs to send uncompressed Dolby Atmos wirelessly to the new LG S95TR and LG SG10TY soundbars.

Now Dolby Atmos itself isn’t new to wireless transmission. Samsung’s 2023 HW-Q990C soundbar, for example, could receive Atmos signals sans cables from compatible Samsung TVs. However, that utilized compression during transmission – aka you didn’t get truly lossless Atmos.
