Migration

Meaning – The term migration, refers to the installation of a new version or release of a program to replace an earlier version or release.

System migration is a process of transferring business process IT resources to a newer hardware infrastructure or a different software platform for the purpose of keeping up with current technologies and/or gaining better business value. In all cases, the move is done toward a system perceived to be better than the current system and would, in the long run, give better value.

A system migration might involve the physical migration of computing assets, like when older hardware can no longer provide the required level of performance and meet the business needs of the organization.

Example of usage“When the migration only involves data and software, the move can be automated using migration software.”
