With Embers of Neltharion, World of Warcraft will see a big shift in the Mythic Keystone formula, as the forthcoming patch will have no seasonal affix for the first time since Legion. Seasonal affixes have been both cherished and loathed by the community since their debut in Battle for Azeroth, and keystone affixes in World of Warcraft’s Mythic dungeons in general remain a passionately disputed issue full of strong emotions.
Although Season 1 was highly appreciated by World of Warcraft gamers, no one will miss the Thundering seasonal affix or the lack of Ruby Life Pools in Dragonflight’s Season 2 dungeon slate. One trend that has undoubtedly formed since the release of Dragonflight is the widespread belief that Blizzard is finally listening to its fans and taking an unbiased look at the game’s most vexing elements. Considering that Shadowlands was often chastised for system and feature bloat, as well as a lack of communication between devs and players, Dragonflight has been a breath of fresh air in more ways than one.
Embers of Neltharion will also rework the Level 7 affixes, which have previously been a significant cause of annoyance for players. The decision to eliminate seasonal affixes in Dragonflight Season 2 was unveiled during a group interview when Associate Game Director Morgan Day disclosed the news. Mythic Plus dungeons in World of Warcraft are a popular game mode and a viable alternative to the more conventional type of raiding for gearing up. These adjustments should make the experience more enjoyable for gamers without removing the difficulty.
Blizzard has revealed the entire dungeon roster for Dragonflight Mythic Season 2 in addition to revealing that affixes will be undergoing big modifications in Patch 10.1. The remaining four Dragonflight dungeons will be available in Mythic Plus, as will The Underrot and Freehold from Battle for Azeroth, Neltharion’s Lair from Legion, and The Vortex Pinnacle from Cataclysm. Since Cataclysm dungeons were notoriously tough at launch, and they had never before been subjected to Mythic affixes, it will be especially intriguing to watch how Blizzard fits The Vortex Pinnacle into the Keystone system.
Dragonflight’s first big content patch, Embers of Neltharion, feels the part. The considerable upgrades that Blizzard has planned for the game, as well as the introduction of a new zone and raid, are sure to pique interest once the content becomes available on the Public Test Realms. Patch 10.1 is expected to be released in late Spring, with the return to the Forbidden Reach beginning on March 21.
