As expected, today’s PlayStation State of Play event featured an extended look at Hideo Kojima’s highly anticipated sequel Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. Protagonist Sam Porter Bridges, played by Norman Reedus, is back traversing impressively rendered landscapes with his iconic oversized yellow backpack.
The preview trailer depicts surreal, unsettling imagery true to Kojima’s signature style. Plot details remain vague, even for those familiar with the first game. It seems delivery missions will be handled by bots this time around, freeing Sam up for more action-oriented challenges. A surprise standout moment shows Sam captured and encountering his long lost brother, played by Troy Baker. His brother dramatically reveals a weaponized guitar which he shreds to fend off enemies, because…Kojima.
Fans will have to wait a while to experience the bizarre events teased today. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach won’t launch until sometime in 2025.
Finally, Kojima teased he has another all-new project in early development to follow Death Stranding 2. However, details are sparse for now, and production likely won’t kick into full gear until after Death Stranding 2 is complete.
