At TI, Dota 2 introduces new hero Muerta

Dota 2 introduced Muerta, a hero with skull-like features and marigold flowers on her head inspired by the Mexican holiday Dia de los Muertos, ahead of the TI11 Grand Finals (Day of the Dead). She pulls out a gun and transforms into a wraith-like being surrounded by Ghosts, ready to pierce the veil and “haunt the lanes,” possibly implying that she is a phantom walking in the land of the living in the 50-second teaser video. The plan is to have her available in Dota 2 sometime in early 2023.

Although Dota 2 hasn’t revealed much about Muerta’s abilities, some speculate that she’ll be a ranged carry or an agility-based hero like Sniper. One YouTube commenter speculated that even after dying in-game, she might still be able to help the team. Meanwhile, others in Dota 2 have begun piecing together her potential lore. Based on Muerta’s monologue in the teaser, she and Phantom Assassin could be Sisters of the Veil.
