VR Hit ‘Puzzling Places’ Drops Its Headset Requirement, Launches on Steam April 9

Realities.io is bringing its popular VR puzzle game to the masses. Puzzling Places, which has amassed 400,000 players and over 3,000 reviews on VR platforms, launches on Steam on April 9 with full support for flatscreen PC, Steam Deck, and PCVR.

From VR-Only to Platform Agnostic

The indie studio has rebuilt the game from the ground up for the Steam release, marking the first time players can experience the 3D jigsaw experience without strapping on a headset. The move opens up the relaxation-focused title to a significantly larger potential audience.

For the uninitiated, Puzzling Places lets players assemble 3D dioramas created from photogrammetry scans of real-world locations. The game eschews the timers, quests, and progression systems that dominate modern gaming in favor of a pure, pressure-free puzzle experience.

Scalable Challenge

The Steam version offers puzzles ranging from quick 25-piece builds to marathon 1,000-piece challenges. Two distinct modes cater to different play styles: Classic Mode delivers traditional jigsaw gameplay, while Journey Mode provides a more guided experience for shorter sessions.

Cross-device support means players can start a puzzle on their desktop, continue on Steam Deck during a commute, and finish in VR for a more immersive completion.

What’s Next

The launch positions Realities.io to capitalize on the cozy gaming trend that has seen titles like Unpacking and PowerWash Simulator find unexpected mainstream success. With VR adoption still relatively niche, the flatscreen expansion could be the catalyst that transforms Puzzling Places from a VR curiosity into a broader hit.

The game is available to wishlist now on Steam ahead of its April 9 release.
