Sony has officially unveiled its latest aesthetic upgrade for the PlayStation 5 ecosystem, dubbed the “Hyperpop Collection.” This new line features three bold color options: Techno Red, Remix Green, and Rhythm Blue. Each design utilizes a high-contrast primary color scheme that transitions into a black gradient, aiming for a retro-futuristic or “hyperpop” aesthetic. The collection will include both DualSense wireless controllers and console covers specifically designed for the PS5 Slim model.
The DualSense controllers in this collection are priced at $84.99 (£74.99), while the matching console covers will retail for $74.99 (£64.99). According to Sony, the console covers will be released in “limited quantities” and will only be available in “select markets.” Pre-orders for the entire collection are scheduled to begin on January 16, 2026, at 10:00 AM ET in the United States and 10:00 AM local time in the United Kingdom.
Public reaction to the designs has been polarized. While some critics have described the bright gradients as visually jarring, many fans have welcomed the unconventional look, with some comparing the “Remix Green” variant to a classic “Mountain Dew” aesthetic. Interestingly, there has been no mention of compatible covers for the PlayStation 5 Pro. For now, it appears that the Hyperpop console covers are exclusive to the Slim model, though the controllers will function across all PS5 variants and PC.
This release follows a series of limited-edition accessories from Sony, including the recent 30th Anniversary and God of War collections. By leaning into the hyperpop aesthetic, Sony is targeting a younger or more fashion-forward demographic that prefers loud, expressive hardware over the standard white or matte black finishes. With pre-orders opening soon, the success of this line will likely determine if Sony continues to experiment with high-contrast gradient designs for its future hardware refreshes.
