In September, Jeep revealed details on three battery-electric models and one plug-in hybrid that will be available within the next two years. One of the EVs was given the codename Wagoneer S by Chief Design Officer Ralph Gilles, who explained that the “S” stands for “speed, striking, and sexy.” According to Motor Trend, the S could also stand for “Stumped,” because Jeep has yet to name the luxury mid-sizer. “We have a few in the basket,” brand president Christian Meunier told the magazine of a product name, but Jeep wants crowdsourced help choosing a handle. This will not be a free-for-all; much like Ford did with the new Nite Pony black accent package for the 2023 Mustang, Jeep will provide suggestions and direction as part of a contest that will begin in the coming month. With the EV’s debut scheduled for early 2023 and reservations opening, Meunier wants to name a winner by the end of the year.
