Chromecast with Google TV has been a solid and affordable purchase for those looking to add more smarts and streaming options to their existing setup since it was first announced in 2020. If you’ve been waiting patiently to buy one, now is the time. Amazon has reduced the price of the 4K versions. The device is now $40 after a 20% discount, matching its previous all-time low price. The retailer has also reduced the cost of the recently released HD variant. The device is currently available for $20. That’s $10 less than the usual asking price of $30.
As previously stated, both Chromecast and Google TV versions are excellent choices if you’re on a tight budget or prefer Google’s approach over competitors such as Apple, Amazon, or Roku. Engadget gave the 4K version an 86 in 2020, praising its excellent Google Assistant integration, comfortable and easy-to-use remote, and support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. The less expensive HD version is similarly excellent, providing much the same experience at a lower price point for those without a 4K TV. If there was a reason to choose a competing streaming stick over the Chromecast with Google TV, it was because the dongle was occasionally slow. That has changed since Google released a performance update this summer.
