World of Warcraft players will soon have a new way to earn rewards and have fun in the game, as the upcoming Patch 10.1, Embers of Neltharion, introduces a Snail Racing mini-game. The new activity takes place in the expansive subterranean zone of Zaralek Cavern, home to several native species, including the Drogbar, who have an affinity for snail racing.
In the Snail Racing mini-game, players can participate in a weekly quest by selecting one of four snails to support during the race. They can give their chosen snail a boost with treats, fend off attackers who try to waylay the racer, and guide their champion to victory. Completing the event rewards players with a unique battle pet of the winning snail, and the other three snails can be earned in subsequent weeks.
In addition to the mini-game, a new Drogbar NPC named Briggul is linked to a new reputation faction called Glimmerogg Racer. Players can earn reputation by completing daily quests and by showing unique level 25 snail battle pets earned from other places in the game. The Glimmerogg Racer reputation rewards players with the Big Slick, a bright pink snail mount that can be earned by completing the Snailed It quest.
While the movement speed of the Big Slick mount is no faster than normal walking speed, players may be able to increase its speed by raising their reputation and performing certain tasks. There is also evidence that players can race their own snail battle pets and train their own snails to become full-fledged racers, but it is unclear if these activities will be included in Patch 10.1.
The release of Patch 10.1 on May 2 will reveal whether these additional activities will be included, or if they will be kept secret by World of Warcraft developers. Regardless, the Snail Racing mini-game offers players a new and entertaining way to earn rewards and have fun in the game.
