Whatsapp Messenger is the most popular instant messaging app in the market today. Now a part of the Facebook ecosystem, Whatsapp offers multiple functionalities to users including the ability to create and talk in groups, host video calls, send media and enjoy end-to-end conversations across the platform.
Whatsapp started off as a simple free to use instant messaging app, which soon rose to popularity and eventually ended up replacing the standard messaging app on our phones. Recently, Whatsapp also rolled our business-centric features, including a Whatsapp for business app, making the product a versatile and must-have app on all smartphones. Today, Whatsapp is the most downloaded messenger and is available as a free download on iOS, Android, and even PCs.
Whenever you send a message on Whatsapp, the way you understand the status of the message is through tick marks that appear on your message window. It is important to understand what these various tick mark notations mean so that it becomes easy to understand the delivery status of your messages and also helps in avoiding misunderstandings or miscommunications.
So, let’s get right into it –
- The single tick – If you press send on your message and you see just a single tick next to the message, then what it means is that the message has been successfully sent from your end but has not yet been received by the recipient.
- The double tick – If the single tick next to your message turns into a double tick, then what it means is that the message has been sent from your end and successfully received by the recipient.
- The blue double tick – If the double tick turns blue, then it means that the recipient has read your message.
In a group chat, the second checkmark appears when all participants in the group have received your message. Two blue checkmarks appear when all participants in the group have read your message.
Whatsapp also allows you to disable the blue tick feature and if your recipient has enabled this, then the normal grey double tick will also indicate the read status, but in such cases, there is no real way to know whether the recipient has read the message or not, unless he/she responds to it.
