Reddit adds new feature allowing users to search comments within individual posts

Reddit unveiled today a new feature allowing users to search for comments inside a single post. The new functionality is currently accessible on the PC, iOS, and Android platforms.

“So what does this mean?” said Reddit mod u/anon-axolotl in the pinned announcement post in r/reddit. You no longer need to use ‘cmd-f’ on the post page, and you may search comment threads without enlarging them. No more extended scrolling sessions – get to the sections of the discussion you want fast and hop in where you choose.” Before, searching in a browser with Ctrl-F (Windows) or Cmd-F (MacOS) required you to expand any collapsed comments before seeing the complete results. Reddit’s new built-in search will bring up all results without further taps or clicks.

The new functionality expands on Reddit’s recent addition of the ability to search comments throughout the site. Before, Reddit’s search returned only results from original posts and topics inside a community.

In recent months, Reddit has been working hard to improve its search capabilities. In October, it added the ability to search for text inside photographs, which is useful for memes and other text-filled images. The business also upgraded its subreddit search algorithm, giving “a bigger number of and more relevant subreddits for most queries” as well as better autocomplete results. Third, it improved the navigation for video search results in Reddit mobile applications, allowing you to simply swipe up and down to navigate between video search results.
