Plex will discontinue support for podcasts on Friday

Plex will discontinue support for podcasts on Friday, a feature it offered in 2018. Plex is also discontinuing the dedicated Web Shows area, while the majority of this material will continue to be available elsewhere in the app.

Plex does not state specifically why it is discontinuing podcast support, simply that it is no longer cost effective. “As part of our continuous commitment to ensure that our time and efforts are spent in the most beneficial ways possible for our wonderful user community, we’ve decided to discontinue support for Podcasts and Web Shows within Plex,” the firm stated in a release. “We appreciate that this decision will have a significant impact on some of you and apologise for the inconvenience.” You can continue to use these capabilities within Plex until Friday, April 15th, 2022, when they will be deactivated.”

The removal of podcasts from Plex is perplexing at a time when the medium is flourishing, and contradicts the company’s stated purpose of being a one-stop shop for all your streaming media consumption.
