PayPal introduces passkey functionality in the United States to facilitate logins and checkouts

Passkeys utilize your biometrics to log into your accounts, but it’s not the same as utilizing your face or fingerprints to auto-fill username and password fields. You become the login using passkeys. When you enable the option for an app, it generates a cryptographic key pair that is linked to your account. One of those keys is public, and it is used by applications and services to verify your identity. The other key is private and is only saved on your devices, making it impossible for hackers to steal it if they ever get access to the servers of applications you use. Apps and websites that support passkey then compare their public key to your private key to ensure that it is you who is signing in.
