Scott Mercer, the game’s meta designer, and Morgan Maddren, the game’s senior software engineer, addressed the new partnership with One Punch Man and the game’s matchmaking in a webcast on Overwatch 2’s official Twitch channel. The two developers discussed how tough it is to make matching in the game fair and asked users not to establish smurf accounts. They then emphasised that when a high-ranked player smurfs, it spoils the game experience for new players due to the skill level structure in Overwatch 2. As a consequence, matching for low-ranked and new players suffers greatly.
