Microsoft Teams set to arrive on Android Auto, Finally

Neither Microsoft nor Google have explained the lengthy delay in launching Teams on Android Auto. Back in May, Google showcased Android Auto integrations for Zoom and Webex as well. Those video conferencing apps actually rolled out in September, so Teams is lagging behind. Beyond work apps, Android Auto now also offers entertainment from YouTube and The Weather Channel. For passengers, there are even built-in games like Solitaire and Beach Buggy Racing 2.

Google says Android Auto now pairs with over 200 million cars globally. Adding a widely-used app like Teams fills an obvious gap. Separately, Google notes that adoptions of Android Automotive – a full infotainment OS for manufacturers rather than an add-on like Auto – is accelerating sharply. Brands like Polestar, Chevrolet, Honda now offer Google’s system instead of proprietary solutions.

The rollout of Microsoft Teams next month will hopefully make Android Auto more useful for on-the-go productivity. But we’ll have to wait and see exactly how much of Teams’ core collaboration functionality transfers to the driving environment when it launches.
