Meta, the parent company of Facebook, is venturing into the games subscription market with its latest offering, Meta Quest+. CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently announced the subscription plan, which provides users with access to “the best titles on the platform” for a monthly fee of $8 or an annual fee of $60. The subscription is now available on Quest 2 and Quest Pro and will also be accessible on Quest 3 upon its release later this year. To entice early adopters, those who sign up for Meta Quest+ before the end of July will only pay $1 for their first month.
With Meta Quest+, subscribers will receive two carefully selected games on the first day of each month. The initial lineup includes popular titles like Pistol Whip, a thrilling first-person shooter, and Pixel Ripped 1995, an immersive retro experience. For August, subscribers can look forward to Walkabout Mini Golf and Mothergunship: Forge. Similar to services like PlayStation Plus Essential, members will retain access to the games for the duration of their subscription. If subscribers decide to cancel Meta Quest+ but later rejoin, they will regain access to the games from their original membership period.
Meta has been actively embracing subscription models lately. In addition to Meta Quest+, the company introduced Meta Verified earlier this year—a verification service for Facebook and Instagram accounts. Alongside the coveted checkmark, Meta Verified offers subscribers enhanced protection against impersonation and direct access to customer support.
While Meta Quest+ marks an exciting development in the gaming industry, it is worth noting that it is not the only subscription service available for VR headsets. HTC has been providing access to a vast library of VR games, applications, and videos through its Viveport Infinity service since 2019.
As the gaming subscription market continues to grow, Meta is positioning itself as a key player with Meta Quest+. By offering a curated selection of top titles and the convenience of a subscription model, Meta aims to enhance the gaming experience for its users and further solidify its presence in the virtual reality landscape.
