Honda has made a surprise announcement regarding its upcoming EV lineup at a recent business briefing. The automaker revealed that it is developing a mid-to-large-size electric vehicle based on its e:Architecture platform, with plans to launch it in North America by 2025, a year earlier than previously announced. The e:Architecture is Honda’s dedicated EV platform, with the company previously stating that vehicles adopting this architecture will be available in 2026.
Furthermore, Honda is also focused on further developing its vehicle operating system for use in mid-to-large-size EVs, with a focus on enabling the continuous advancement of vehicle functions and services for customers even after the vehicle is purchased. However, the company did not reveal any plans for smaller vehicles based on the e:Architecture for the North American market at this time.
Before launching vehicles based on its dedicated platform, Honda will release the Acura ZDX and Prologue, its first electric SUV, which it is developing with General Motors. Both vehicles are expected to hit the market in 2024. In addition, Honda plans to release a series of small-size EVs, including the electric N-One, a popular mini Kei car in Japan, in 2024. Honda also intends to launch a small-size SUV for the Japanese market in 2026.
Honda’s announcement is an exciting development for EV enthusiasts, as the mid-to-large-size EV based on e:Architecture is sure to be highly anticipated. With its earlier-than-expected release date, Honda is making a clear statement of intent in the competitive EV market. We look forward to seeing how the company’s EV lineup develops in the coming years.
