Google Fi rebrands to Google Fi Wireless and offers a one-week eSIM trial

Google Fi, the mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) operated by Google, has announced some major updates, including a new name, Google Fi Wireless. The name change aims to make the service’s purpose clearer to customers. Along with the name change, Google Fi Wireless is offering a free seven-day trial of the service for eSIM-compatible devices. If customers don’t cancel the trial within a week, they will be automatically subscribed to the Simply Unlimited plan.

The Simply Unlimited plan costs as little as $20 per month per user, depending on the number of people included. It offers unlimited data, calls, and texts in the US, Canada, and Mexico. Other features of the plan include spam call blocking, a VPN, and 5GB of tethered data. Google Fi Wireless has added cellular connectivity for certain smartwatches at no extra cost, including the Pixel Watch on the Flexible and Unlimited Plus plans, and the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro on all three plans.

Google Fi Wireless is also offering a free phone for every new line added to any plan with a 24-month commitment. Customers can choose from a Google Pixel 6a, Samsung A14, or Moto G Power through this offer.

Google Fi Wireless is focusing on families and has rolled out a redesigned app that offers new features to parents and guardians to manage safety settings. Among the options are the ability to only allow trusted numbers to call or text a child’s device, and the ability to manage the Google Fi Wireless plan and add new members.

Google Fi Wireless will hope these changes will make the service more attractive to customers, and the name change will help people better understand what the service is all about. The free seven-day trial and the free phone offer are also likely to lure new customers to the service.
