Meaning – The function keys, also known as F keys, are the keys that you find at the top of the conventional keyboard and each of them is mapped to perform specific functions on the computer. Windows-based PCs have featured these function keys on the keyboard since the very beginning. Apple Mac computers have only recently introduced dedicated function keys on their keyboard.
Today, there are some applications that require the user to press a specific function key, in order to activate or perform certain actions within the applications. However, if the function key is already mapped to a core computer function, the user must now press the function key along with a proxy key in order to differentiate the interactions.
Example of usage – “The function keys are on the function key row, which is above the number key row and is the highest row on a keyboard.”
