Fisker begins manufacturing of the Ocean electric SUV

Fisker has begun production of its ambitious electric Ocean SUV in Austria after years of planning. The corporation promised to begin manufacturing by the end of 2022, and it has done it with about six weeks to spare.

If you didn’t pre-order the EV quickly, you could be in for a long wait until you can get your hands on the Ocean. Fisker will steadily increase production. It intends to construct over 300 apartments in the first quarter of 2023, escalating to over 8,000 the following quarter. The goal for Q3 is to produce more than 15,000 units. Fisker anticipates producing around 42,400 units in 2023.

Two Ocean trims have sold out in the United States for 2023, and the firm has received almost 63,000 bookings in total. The limited-edition Ocean One trim, based on the high-end Ocean Extreme, demanded a $5,000 deposit and sold out in less than 30 days earlier this year. Fisker will produce 5,000 Ocean Ones before moving on to other models.

According to Fisker, the Ocean Extreme, which begins at $68,999, can go 350 miles on a single charge. As a safety feature, the SUV has what the manufacturer says is the first digital radar system. The Ocean Extreme boasts a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive system with 550 horsepower, allowing it to go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds. It also has three driving modes, a 17.1-inch rotating screen for gaming, and a solar roof.

The entry-level Ocean Sport costs $37,499, while the mid-tier Ocean Ultra costs $49,999. The Sport features a single 275 horsepower engine that can propel the vehicle from 0 to 60 mph in 6.6 seconds. The dual-motor Ultra produces 540 horsepower and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds.

According to Fisker, the Ocean is the world’s “most sustainable car.” The SUV is built in a carbon-neutral plant. The car also contains more than 50 kg (110 pounds) of recyclable, biodegradable, and environmentally friendly components.
