Comfey, a Fairy-type Pokemon, will be joining the roster of Pokemon Unite next week. Since the renowned monster-catching franchise’s MOBA offshoot began in July 2021, its roster has more than quadrupled from the 20 Pokemon accessible at launch. The game has included a number of fan-favourite animals from the series’ lengthy history, most notably adding Dragapult earlier this month.
Pokemon Unite’s new additions come in all shapes and sizes from the franchise’s enormous collection of Pokemon. Tyranitar and Urshifu, two hulking Pokemon with menacing appearances, have been joined by smaller, more agile animals like various Eeveelutions and Azumarill. The MOBA has even included Legendary Pokemon, featuring Mythical animals like Mew and Zeraora.

A quick post from Pokemon Unite’s social media pages announced the flower Pokemon Comfey as the game’s next addition. The message did not reveal how Comfey would play in the MOBA, but it did indicate that it would be released one week after the post, on February 2nd. Comfey will be the 48th monster introduced to the Pokemon MOBA’s increasing roster, which has had monthly releases since a few months after its inception. Fans have already begun to speculate on how Comfey will function in-game, with the Pokemon having a more supporting role.
Comfey’s appearance will coincide with Pokemon Unite’s expanding experimentation with distinct play styles and systems in recent Pokemon releases. Pokemon such as Urshifu have experimented with several move sets, with players able to choose between its Rapid Strike and Single Strike stances. Others, such as Hoopa and Sableye, have experimented with novel mechanics, such as Hoopa’s teleportation powers and Sableye’s ability to force opponents back to base. Some fans have compared Comfey to Yuumi from League of Legends as an inspiration for how Comfey may control Pokemon Unite.
The addition of the newest Pokemon Unite character comes as the long-running series has garnered headlines in recent months. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet were a huge success for Pokemon’s video game branch, selling 10 million copies in only a few days after its debut. The Pokemon Company would also declare that its anime will undergo dramatic changes, including the departure of its long-standing protagonist Ash. Pokemon Unite has been a solid franchise offshoot since its inception and will try to retain its status as the series enters a new age.
