Cowboy, the independent and financially robust maker of sophisticated and highly advanced e-bikes, has unveiled its first all-road electric bike, the Cross E-Bike. This gentle beast is poised to liberate riders from the confines of cobblestoned city streets, inviting them to embark on adventures that venture into greener pastures.

Cowboy Unveils ‘Gentle Beast’ Cross E-Bike
Engineered for versatility, the Cowboy Cross e-bike features a robust suite of enhancements that equip it for off-road excursions. Boasting fatter 60mm tires and suspension systems integrated into the front fork and seat post, this two-wheeled marvel is primed to soak up bumps and undulations along the way. Additionally, the Cross is fitted with grippier pedals to prevent foot slips when navigating rugged terrain, ensuring a secure and confidence-inspiring ride.
Powering this gentle beast is a formidable 540Wh removable battery, promising an impressive maximum range of 120km (75 miles), empowering riders to venture further afield without range anxiety. Moreover, an integrated rear rack allows for effortless transportation of gear and supplies, further enhancing the Cross’s utility as a true all-roader.
During a comprehensive test ride across a diverse array of surfaces, the Cross e-bike demonstrated its prowess as a veritable beast in all the best possible ways. The plush seat suspension, a feature Cowboy hopes to carry over to its entire lineup, proved to be a standout highlight. The inverted front fork suspension and wider tires also excelled, imbuing this (very) heavy 27.9kg / 62lbs e-bike with an unwavering solidity on pavement, packed dirt, and gravel alike. While the Cross may not be the optimal choice for multiday bikepacking adventures, it effortlessly transitions from a city bike to a casual rural explorer.
Aesthetically, the Cross e-bike cuts an impressive figure, with its three new metallic satin paint colors – a sedate dark gray, a lovely mossy green, and a captivating “mushroom” hue that oscillates between a dirty silver, a muted purple, and a rusty champagne gold depending on the ambient light. The top tube’s unique split design around the battery creates an intriguing floating effect on the step-over frame.
Beneath its rugged exterior, the Cross is a pedal-assisted e-bike powered by a belt-driven 250W rear-hub adaptive-power motor with an EU max speed of 25km/h, consistent with Cowboy’s other e-bike offerings.
Notably, the Cross is Cowboy’s first e-bike to feature the new Check My Bike self-diagnostic tool, enabling the company to automatically monitor the health of its rolling computers with the intent of keeping riders on the road for longer. Additionally, the company is introducing a new Live Challenges gamification feature to the app, promising “the most fun and engaging ride experience.”
Complementing these innovations are Cowboy’s signature tech embellishments, including crash detection, theft detection, and an excellent proprietary app with integrated Google Maps navigation and seamless service scheduling.
At launch, the Cowboy Cross e-bike is priced at €3,499 (about $3,800) before an eventual increase to €3,999, with sales commencing today.
