Android 15 May Introduce 80% Charging Limit for Pixel Phones

One of the key components that can degrade in a smartphone over time is the battery. To prolong the life of your device and reduce the frequency of charging, maintaining battery health is crucial. Google might be working on a new feature to assist with this in Android 15.

According to Android Authority, a new ‘charging optimization’ page was discovered in the latest Android 15 beta. This feature isn’t currently active or accessible without modifying the code. However, the site managed to access the page and found an option to limit the phone’s charge to 80%. Limiting charging to 80% can be beneficial for battery longevity, as it prevents the battery from reaching full charge, which can accelerate wear.

It’s uncertain which phones will receive this feature, but it is likely to be included in the Pixel 8 lineup and other recent Pixel models. Other Android brands may not get this feature, but companies like Samsung and Apple already offer similar options, making it a logical step for Google to follow suit.

The charging limit feature appears to be fixed at 80%, unlike iOS 18, which allows users to select from various limits, such as 80%, 85%, 90%, or 95%.

This new feature would complement the existing adaptive charging function on Pixel phones, which charges the device to 80% and then waits to complete the charge until it predicts you will unplug it. Users will likely have the option to choose between the adaptive charging feature and the 80% limit.

Android Authority suggests that since this feature isn’t yet enabled in the Android 15 beta, it may not be included in the initial release of Android 15. Instead, it could be introduced in the first Quarterly Platform Release (QPR) for Android 15, expected later in the year.

With Android 15 possibly launching as early as August, we should soon find out if this charging limit feature will be part of the update.
