According to an internal email making the rounds online, Amazon Games is going through some significant layoffs. The memo, reportedly from Amazon Games’ VP Christoph Hartmann, spilled the beans, mentioning that they’re saying goodbye to “just over 180 roles.”
Seems like after a bit of restructuring in April, Amazon Games is shifting gears, putting more focus on areas that can really drive their business forward. The memo spills the tea on shutting down both Game Growth and Crown Channel. Game Growth was all about changing how game creators spread the word about their stuff globally. On the other hand, Crown Channel was this cool streaming spot with big Twitch names doing gaming content – about 199k subscribers on Twitch and 7.54k on YouTube at the last count.
Now, they’re zooming in on Prime Gaming, recognizing how much you all dig those monthly free games. In the email, Hartmann assures that the cuts haven’t hit the game development and publishing divisions directly, like the crew behind the open-world MMO New World.
Towards the end of the memo, Hartmann gets real about the situation, acknowledging it’s the second time this year folks are hearing about big changes. But he’s throwing in a dose of confidence, saying he’s still sure about the future.
